About

Ruth Clarke
Growing up, I always recognised the healing qualities of creating art - the way it could help me feel grounded and allow me to process thoughts and emotions that I was struggling with.
With a budding interest in art therapy, I found myself entering the field of Education, where I saw a significant need for mental health support amongst Aotearoa's young people. While I loved being a teacher, I knew I would be able to do more for our most vulnerable by bringing the arts into a therapeutic space, as opposed to a classroom.
Fast forward to today, I have completed the Masters in Creative Arts Therapy (Clinical) at Whitecliffe College and have worked with a range of clientele, from children to young offenders to adults with disabilities. I love being able to offer clients of all backgrounds creative tools to navigate difficulties and allow them to explore different facets of themselves.

Ruka Therapy
The Space
Setting up my studio, I wanted to create a spacious, calming environment that wouldn't be overstimulating for those starting out their art therapy journey.
Ruka Creative Therapy can be found at the corner of Eruera Street and Tutanakai Street in the Rotorua CBD.
If stairs are a challenge for you, please let me know so I can arrange a temporary space for your session.
Although the space isn't the biggest, there's plenty of natural light and room to move.
I have a large range of materials that we can use to explore your worldview and unpack any challenges you're experiencing.
If there's anything I don't have that you'd like to use, please let me know! I love opportunities to add to my collection.
